Case study · Our sister studio

A site that opens on the studio’s own work.

Our sister studio makes photographs, films and social media posts for places across Punjab, every month. Its new site has one job: to let that work do the selling, to an owner holding a phone.

The studio’s home page on a phone: ‘Your gym, shot like this. Every month.’, the gym floor at Oxen Fitness under its lit sign, WhatsApp us and the free audit, the line on languages, and ‘In the studio now’.

The first screen

The work, before a word about it.

An owner opens it on a phone, often after a WhatsApp message, with one question: would my place look like that? So the first thing on the page is the studio’s own picture of a place it works for, with the place’s name on it, and the first button opens WhatsApp.

  • The offer in one line, and the word in it turns: gym, clinic, café, shop, hotel, restaurant, then back to place. The picture turns with it, to a place of that trade the studio has shot for.
  • Under every WhatsApp button, one line: they answer in Punjabi, Hindi or English. On the first screen, the same line follows in Gurmukhi.
  • “In the studio now” only while they are, with the number to call. Out of hours, it says when they are back.

The situation

Real work, named clients, and an owner checking on a phone.

The studio is two people. Navneet Kaur looks after clients and ads. Amulya Vashistha shoots, edits and looks after the brand. Every month they work for an ice cream parlour, a hotel and its bar, a gym, and a doctor who makes health videos, and on single shoot days for other brands.

Most owners reach the site after a WhatsApp message or a friend’s word. They open it on a phone, often on mobile data, with one question: would my place look like that?

The first site could not answer it. It was drawn in lines, because there were no photographs yet. By September 2026 there were: a drive of Amulya’s photographs and film, and a yes from each client to show them.

So the brief was short. Put the work first, name every client, and make the next step one tap.

The decisions

Six decisions, each with its price.

Each one is marked in red on the finished pages.

Their rooftop, and whose it is

The studio’s home page, the first screen.

Open on the work, not on a sales line.

The first thing an owner sees is the studio’s own photograph of a place it works for every month: the rooftop at The Grand Ambassador at sunset, beside the offer, “Your place, shot like this. Every month.” Then the word turns through gym, clinic, café, shop, hotel and restaurant, and the picture turns with it, each one a place the studio has shot: Oxen Fitness’s gym floor for gym, Dr Bedi for clinic, a sundae being made at Bell’s for café. A line on the picture always says whose place it is, and for the places it works for every month, it links to their Instagram.

Any studio can say its work is good. This one shows it before it says anything.

What it cost
Six more pictures and, on a phone, about half a megabyte of film, all fetched only once the first picture has shown. With data saver or reduced motion on, none of them load: the page rests on the first picture, and on “place”.
Oxen Fitness’s card on GrowMint’s home page: the tag ‘Film, every month’ and the line ‘We shoot and edit their reels every month. Oxen posts them.’, beside the coaching team outside the gym.

Film only, so the card says film only

The home page, the client cards.

2 of 6

Name every client, and say exactly what is done for each.

Four places the studio works for every month, each on a card of its own: their pictures, their Instagram, and a link to all of their work. Bell’s, the hotel and Dr Ridhima Bedi get photography, film and social media. Oxen Fitness gets film only, and its card says so: “We shoot and edit their reels every month. Oxen posts them.”

There are no borrowed logos. The brands shot on single days are named too, set in type.

What it cost
Only work a business has said yes to is on the site. Some good pictures stay on the drive.
1 · A visitorasks for the prices page
2 · Cloudflare’s edgereads the country, before the page leaves
3 · In Indiarupees, each with “+ 18% GST”
3 · Everywhere elseUS dollars, and no GST

Both price lists are written into the page. One is chosen before it is sent.

The right currency, before the page arrives

How the prices page is served, drawn from the site’s code. The prices themselves are on the studio’s own site.

3 of 6

Prices on the page, in the visitor’s own currency.

The prices are written into the page in both currencies. Before the page leaves Cloudflare, a visitor in India is given rupees, each with “+ 18% GST” beside it, and sees Film too: 4 edited reels and 5 edited photos a month, for places in Punjab that post their own, priced in rupees only. Everyone else gets US dollars, and no GST. No wrong currency flashes up first, and it works with JavaScript switched off.

A price on the page tells an owner what the conversation will cost before they have had it.

What it cost
A price change now touches both currencies, the words on the page, the saved WhatsApp replies and the plan picker, and all of them must agree. A small program also runs at Cloudflare’s edge on every page request.

Your language, and whether anyone’s in

The home page, under the two buttons.

4 of 6

WhatsApp first, in the language you think in.

The studio already runs every client’s month on WhatsApp, so on the site it is the first button, and the first message is already typed: “Hi GrowMint, I’d like to talk.” The free audit has its own, which asks for your Instagram, and the plan picker writes a third, naming the plan it found. Those are the only three messages the site ever types for you.

Under every WhatsApp button sits one line: “Message us in Punjabi, Hindi or English.” On the first screen the same line follows in Gurmukhi, and beside it the page says whether anyone is in right now, from the studio’s real hours: Monday to Saturday, 10:00 to 19:00 India time. In those hours it also gives the number to call. Even “How a month runs” is told as the thread a client gets: the shoot and the plan in week one, the posts every Monday, the report on the last Friday.

What it cost
A promise on every page. While it says “In the studio now, replies within the hour”, the studio has to reply within the hour.
The top of Bell’s page on GrowMint’s site: ‘For cafés, dessert shops and bakeries’, then ‘Bell’s Ice Cream Gallery, every month.’ and what the studio does for them.

A café owner is sent the café’s page

Bell’s page, the top.

5 of 6

A page for each client, which is also a page for each trade.

An owner thinks by trade: a gym owner wants to see a gym. So each monthly client has a page of its own, and it is also the page for that trade. Bell’s is the page for cafés, dessert shops and bakeries. The hotel’s is for hotels, banquet halls, bars and restaurants, Oxen’s for gyms, and Dr Bedi’s for doctors and clinics. The home page lists them by trade just under its first screen, and the studio sends the one that fits.

Each page carries that client’s own review, written by the studio and agreed with them word for word. No stars, no scores, no numbers.

What it cost
Four more pages to keep true. Every date on them is the month the picture was taken, set as plain text, so nothing claims to be recent when it is not.
A patch of GrowMint’s background paper: faint line drawings of a dumbbell, a stethoscope, a cocktail glass, a camera, a kettlebell and a coffee cup.

Their clients’ trades, drawn faint

Bell’s page, the paper behind the words.

6 of 6

One drawing behind everything, faint enough to read over.

The first design had a painted landscape behind it. Next to real photographs it looked childish, so it went. In its place is a paper of small line drawings from the clients’ own trades: a cone, a cocktail, a dumbbell, a stethoscope, a camera.

It is on every page, at four strengths: clear on the first screen, soft on short bands, muted behind prices and forms, and gone behind a paragraph or a photograph. By night, Phagwara time, the whole page turns to deep ink, and a button in the header turns it by hand.

What it cost
Every new section has to be told how strongly the paper shows, and every line of text on it is checked for contrast, by day and at night.

What went liveWhat goes live

Twenty-one pages, and nothing on them borrowed.

  • Home, the work, a page for each of the four monthly clients, services, prices, who they are, the free audit, a page for Phagwara, six field notes, a festival calendar and the page that lists them, terms and privacy. All custom-coded.
  • Every price in rupees for India, with “+ 18% GST”, and in US dollars everywhere else, chosen before the page is sent. Film, for places in Punjab that post their own reels (4 edited reels and 5 edited photos a month), is in rupees only.
  • The studio’s own photographs and film of the places it works for, each captioned with whose place it is. One clip plays at a time, and one button in the header stops them all.
  • Their two faces: small on the second screen of the home page, and in full where it says who they are, with what each one does.
  • Four reviews, one from each monthly client, agreed with them word for word.
  • “Which plan fits you?”: four questions on the prices page that point to a plan. Nothing is sent or saved.
  • Four pages had no real visits in ninety days, so they went. 34 permanent redirects send every old address to the nearest live page.
  • No cookies. The fonts are the studio’s own copies, cut down to what the pages use.
  • A plain-text copy of the site for AI assistants.

The films and pictures on this page show how the site works, not how long a project takes.

What I would change

What is still missing.

It is too new for numbers.

Nothing here claims the site has brought in an enquiry, because nothing can show that yet. If numbers matter on your project, say so at the start, and we agree what to count before anything is built.

Bell’s page on a phone: ‘Bell’s Ice Cream Gallery, every month.’, WhatsApp us and the free audit, ‘In the studio now’, and a fruit waffle, a pineapple sundae and shakes shot for Bell’s in August 2026.
Bell’s page, the page for cafés.

If your work is the proof

Show the work first. Put the price beside it.

I design, write and build the whole site, for one fixed price: US$7,500. We talk on video before you pay anything, and the first payment is a US$750 Site plan, credited in full.
